Scenically charming upper Weser Hills
between the Weser river and the nature park Solling-Vogler in the East, the nature park Eggegebirge / southern Teutoburg Forest in the West as well as the Lipper Hills with the highest rising of the district of Hoxter, the Koterberg (Mutt mountain) (496 meters = about 1,627 feet), in the South.

Minster abbey Marienmunster

Founded from Count Widukind of Schwalenberg in 1128. Romanic, cross-formed pillar cathedral (Pfeilerbasilika) destroyed in 1622/24. In 1658 reconstruction of the hall church, baroque helmet and bonnet on romanic towers, baroque interior decoration. In 1854 new reconstruction of the west towers, gothic peak helmets.
Opened daily, regular guidances through the abbey (status 1997).

Former imperial abbey castle Corvey in Hoxter on the Weser river

Founded in the year 822 at the instigation of Lois (Ludwig) the Pious the imperial abbey Corvey by Hoxter, directly lain on the Weser river. The oldest preserved construction monument of the region is the western plant of the abbey church.
To visit: castle museum, emporer hall, western plant with emperor palatinate and princely library with about 70,000 books (status 1997).
A cultural center: changing art exhibitions, concerts and other events.
In the library of castle Corvey the poet of the national anthem of Germany, August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben worked here as a librarian (1860 to 1874) and is buried on the Corvey cemetary.
